Is the compressor ever cutting out?

Sure sounds like it has lost some gas.
How would I be able to tell if the compressor was cutting out? The fridge is making all the usual rumbling noises. Or at least I haven't noticed a difference (though I'm not in the kitchen all the time, obviously)
In the picture showing the rear of the fridge about 6 posts up, the big black tank at the bottom middle is the compressor.

When this is running it will make a noticeable humming noise and you may feel small amount of vibration when you touch the fridge.

if you have access to the rear of the fridge and you can see the compressor, you can put your hand directly on it and you will immediately feel it vibrating if it is running,  it should also feel warm.

Did you miss the OP's post at 4:02 pm, the compressor is running "bloody hot"
I did miss that. Sounds like the compressor is probably running 24/7 to try and bring the temps down then. Another pointer to a refrigerant leak.

Thanks everyone - it looks like a new fridge freezer is required! Faffed about with it a bit but it's still the same. Freezer still cold so put some stuff in there and am starting the process of looking for a new machine. I appreciate all your help!

Don't forget to get some silicon grease and slap some on the copper pipe joint.

As this is a money saving site. I'll let you in to my little secret (providing we all agree to just keep this between ourselves on this thread).  ;)

If you dispose of your old fridge freezer, and you are so inclined to put in the effort, check to see how much the internal drawers and shelves are selling for on eBay.

My previous fridge which I bought in 2010 cost me £830. When it failed in 2018 I took out all the drawers, shelves and door pockets, ice maker buckets and mechanisms and sold them on eBay.
It took over a year before every last item had sold, but by the time they were all gone, the total I made from selling these second hand plastics parts came to £580!

Now that my latest fridge has also failed, I am doing the same thing, but this time I am going further, breaking it down to the doors, compressor and control boards. (30 separate parts in total). So far (about 3 weeks in) I have sold 5 parts for a total of £226. B)

Very interesting....I will look into this....and promise not to tell anyone...though your fridge sounds like a far better model than mine! I could always utilise the freezer drawers for other storage purposes.

Well done on your selling I bet most people wouldn't even think about this - it's a great idea.
