we have recently had a smart metre with economy 7 night rate and day rate r1 r2 since we've had it the day. rate clocks up between 4:00 and 7 KW hours overnight with only the fridge, freezer and Wi-Fi on. I think this is wrong. also the night rate which heats up our storage heaters clocks up the normal amount has anyone else at this problem

If you have an immersion heater for your hot water, check that the timer hasn't failed or the settings are set correctly for your off peak times.

When you say wrong, are you expecting the overnight day rate to be zero or lower? It won’t be zero as the two registers are recording the amount used on the two household circuits rather than actual time of day.

The amount souse sound quite but some types of freezers and fridges can have quite a high demand, especially older ones and American style ones.

no, I don't expect it to be zero. I expect maybe 1 kW hour overnight as it's only the fridge, freezer and Wi-Fi going which are also going of course all day in the day. we only use between 2:00 and 5 KW hours. that's with everything cooking washing you name it to clock up 4 to 7 hours overnight there must be something wrong

Do you have an immersion heater? is it on the same circuit as your heaters.

How is your hot water het.

If tank, how many immersion heater elements, and how are they driven ?

Your missing 4-5 kWh would heat a medium sized tank, including maybe 1 or 2 showers a day fed by it as well as casual use (hands, dishes etc)

Please can you share a photo of your new smart meter and any associated wiring, and of your consumer nits (fuse boxes).

It's possible that your new smart meter has different off-peak times than you're used to, from the previous meter.
What make and model are your storage heaters?
Do you know if they're switched automatically by the meter, or do they have their own timers?
Does your HW tank have a separate timer?

My house uses about 0.4kWh during the night with old fridge & freezer (definitely using more than new ones would) wifi & at least 6 low wattage bulbs & pump for central heating on thermostat but 24/7.

Doesn't the normal, non-heating,  consumption get charged at the night rate during off peak hours?
