O2 price rise and changing contracts
Hi all, just wondering for a bit of advice.
I’m with O2 at the minute and with the prices rise looking to cut my bill, also my contract ends in January so would’ve moved anyways.
with my contract ending in Jan and being able to move now penalty free, is it just a simple case of texting another provider and letting them deal with it or do I need to ring O2 and inform them I’m leaving?
Also if I did just go through the other mobile network, would my device still be monthly payments with O2 or would that be paid off as a one off payment, which would be in the hundreds as their is still a year left on that contract?
thanks for any advice

Look for Martin's BBC show as he discussed that there but the implication was that O2's stance was device contracts would have to be settled in full, which makes a bit of a mockery of being able to leave early0

Doesn't say that in the email informing you of the new priceGrumpyDil said:Look for Martin's BBC show as he discussed that there but the implication was that O2's stance was device contracts would have to be settled in full, which makes a bit of a mockery of being able to leave early
You have a choice to continue paying monthly or paying in full1 -
The email from o2 specifically says airtime plans, so as handset contract is not part of airtime plan, it's a separate contract, so you need to ask o2 if and how you can end handset contract and what the charges you will incur for ending handset contract.

email also said you can continue to pay monthly or you can pay the remaining balance in full.

I have changed my airtime plan, so wish I hadn’t. My phone and watch payment plans have been terminated. No option to continue paying monthly. Have had no help from customer services at all. Was not told this would happen, assumed that the monthly device payment would continue. Not really sure where to go from here as can’t afford to pay off in one lump sum

Did you not call the 202 number?nurseyb said:I have changed my airtime plan, so wish I hadn’t. My phone and watch payment plans have been terminated. No option to continue paying monthly. Though it does same to have a long wait time as I had to use it to query if I would be required to terminate in the 30 day window as I have been out of contract since September 2019 it was as I thought being able to transfer out at any stage.
You say you changed your airtime plan so did you not leave O2? If you didn't I can't see why the other plans have been terminated even if you have left it goes against the information provided in the email
Do you still have the email informing you of the price increase?
The 202 number is meant to be used if you want to pay the other plans of it doesn't make it a requirement to do so

I phoned the 202 number this morning and told them that I wanted to cancel my airtime plan and continue paying the device plan. They tried to retain my custom by lowering the cost by £3 and increasing the data allowance but it wasn't competitive with other offers out there.
The operator said he would note that the device plan would continue and that my airtime plan would end when I transferred to a new provider using my PAC code. There was no demand to pay the device plan in full despite their misleading email.1
