I've used a programme called Irfanview for photo editing for years. It's free, regularly updated and easy to use with an excellent online help manual.
    Have a look here:-

I've used it for a while, the paid for one, grrr,   :s

Actually it is a good competitor for Photoshop, there are YT video on the new version, but the AI bits do not work unless you pay for a Canva sub.
Free Canva is available, but no AI
Reviews reckon the AI is carp anyway
Yep, I bought Affinity outright (£35) because I got fed up paying for Photoshop monthly.  I did buy an outright version of Photoshop several years ago and used it quite happily until Adobe suddenly sent me an email telling me it was a pirate version!  Upon investigation, it was but I bought it in good faith.  I like Affinity and it does (almost) as much as Photoshop.  Updates are free.

I use gimp, incredibly powerful and free.  If you want something a little easier, then my son uses photopea.  This has a similar interface to photoshop.  Runs in your browser and is free if you don't mind a few ads.
