I.ve had several Messages recently cover changing my Tariff and the 3G turn off shortly.

I was lost with these so went to Tesco Phone shop in my local Tesco.

Was told it was a name change for Pay as you GO and I had £17 credit, but I didn't need to do anything.
As regards the 3G when it goes off my phone would not work as not 4G compatible.

But the Internet 4G checkers say it is 4G compatible

Looking at my phone settings it says my SIM is working on 2G and 3G.

Anyone able to give me the truth?.

I have full fibre broadband at home and it does phone calls to my old number I had when copper was used. I prefer to use this number thus I'm a light user of the mobile number.
I do not want mobile data as when out I use the wi-fi in restaurant etc. I'm at.

Thanks
David

Phone is 4g compatible, it's possible depending on when you got the sim card (pre 4g rollout) that it's not 4g ready? (Tesco 4g is/was provided by O2...  :#)

On the phone within settings --> connections --> mobile networks and then network mode
what options are present? From top of my head, there should be an option '4g preferred' or '2g/3g/4g preferred' option? Is it currently set to that?

Here's a bullet point from the MSE item,
If you have a 2G Sim, you'll need to swap to a 4G Sim. Until you do this, Tesco Mobile won't be able to move your mobile number across. If you have a 2G Sim, Tesco Mobile says it will contact you with information about your options. Alternatively, you can order a replacement Sim by getting in touch with Tesco Mobile via webchat, or by popping into any Tesco Mobile store – this swap should be free.
You can see full item here.
Note that calls and texts are taking a hike.
