The seller is the trader - they bought the car as a part ex - I am the owner.
I will try the bank - Already onto CAB - this seller is a dodgy bloke, claims to have done all the checks, but hasn't  - He needs to get some justice served on him - anything that will get this looked onto will be great - thanks

The gov.uk MoT & tax checker site thinks that reg no belongs to a red Mercedes van, I'd guess a Sprinter:

As you previously said it was a Ltd company, 'he' won't get any justice - you will need to pursue the Ltd company who probably have very little assets.

These people know all the tricks to avoid any comeback.

Did you pay any part of this, even just the deposit, on a credit card? How did you pay the main chunk? In cash, by bank transfer? It’s a really important question. That’s why people asked.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

So not only is a Cat A or B but it's got false plates on it?

I assumed a typo by the OP when quoting the registration upthtread.

Hopefully the OP will clarify.  It could clear up a lot, even possibly the actual issue about the category of the car.

Are they a sole trader or Ltd company.

Bit late now but that's why you get an HPI check when buying used.
Ltd  - the seller claimed all HPI checks were complete
    And you believed him?

You need to do your own checks.
