Hi,
I received a PCN from RHUL a few days ago as I parked on their site for a few hours in the night. Their main body used for parking is FirstParking, are these guys legit and do they actually get on case about unpaid PCN's? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I got one of these dropping my son. I didn’t even spot the signs. He managed to get RHUL to cancel it.'In penguins and pearls we'll drink and we'll dance, 'til the end of our days, 'cause it ain't left to chance that we win...'2

First Parking are 'legit' (if that's how anyone wishes to term a private parking firm!). Your first line of 'attack' is to ask the landowner to cancel the charge (Plan A), if that doesn't work, the NEWBIES FAQ Announcement, post number ONE, will guide you through dealing with the charge.Come back if you need further advice after following above. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

He’s a student there and I was dropping him off. He had failed to get a permit that we didn’t know anything about. He emailed the parking estates team pointing out that we are struggling to support him financially as it is and money spent on this was money not available to support him, and he received this back:John_Doe544 said:

Hi thanks for replying. I've complained to the landowner who replied saying it was issued fairly and so then I decided to appeal it, using the template provided in the NEWBIES FAQ. FirstParking have now replied saying I have 2 weeks to disclose the full name and address of the driver so that they can pursue them, otherwise I will be liable under under Paragraph 9(2)(f) of Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Should I disclose the information or not?Umkomaas said:First Parking are 'legit' (if that's how anyone wishes to term a private parking firm!). But you post above seems to say that the UNI has asked for it to be cancelled and expect it to be cancelled today! What is the true situation?3

Of course not, unless the driver is a stronger/more robust person to ignore the daft £170 threatograms.John_Doe544 said:

Just ignore F1rst Parking unless you can get evidence that the signage is inadequate, which can win at POPLA if you evidence that. Personally, I rarely advise anyone to bother with POPLA. Better to just ignore the silly letters shown in post 4 of the NEWBIES thread.
Please don't show us any of those letters.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

First Parking and DCB Legal recently lost a case in court, without merit

You could name the driver if they are a stronger person to resist the claim, as long as it wasn't yourself ?
Otherwise, ignore their request for driver details and wait for a rejection with Popla code
