after advice here please

last week whilst on a return trip from Manchester to Frankfurt (via Copenhagen) with SAS Airlines.

on the outward flight, the original flight from Copenhagen to Frankfurt (Tues.21.Oct.25 @ 18:15 hours) was cancelled. No sooner did we find out about this and we got transferred to another fight within 5 minutes.

We got moved onto another flight @ 19:10 hours via Lufthansa.
*are scheduled time of arrival at Frankfurt was 19:45
we eventually arrived at Frankfurt @ 21:16 hours

*Are we entitled to EU261 compensation here or not

Now on the return trip from (Thursday.23.Oct.25)

Frankfurt to Copenhagen, the pilot informed all passengers their was an engine issue which resulted in a 90 minute delay in take off.
which in turn meant we missed our connection back to Manchester (17:35 hours)

as a result we got transferred to the same flight the following day.
SAS Airlines, provided us with an overnight hotel stay (with breakfast), 2 x vouchers for taxi to and from airport and a voucher for 200 Danish Kroner to spend at the airport.

*Are we entitled to EU261 compensation for this missed connection.

Thanks in advance

**on another note another group of 4 that got transferred to the same flight
they had tickets issued, but no seats, as such they were unable to board the flight.
yet we left with at least 4 empty seats that i could count.

they got transferred to a later flight that evening and somehow got back to Manchester nearly 4 hours later than planned

I think it's got to be a delay of three hours in the arrival time.

    So first flight No!

The second flight where you got stuck in Copenhagen Yes!

You may have to be persistant and not let them fob you off though.

Last year we were ticketed on SAS from Athens to Birmingham via Copenhagen. When we checked in Athens there was massive delays and the flight was full. As a result  we were denied boarding on that flight. They couldnt re-book us that day so put us up in a hotel with lots of food and re-booked for the same flight next day. Got checked in for that and then some minor damage to plane by a vehicle running into it. (never good when the captain stands on the tarmac staring at the underside of the aircraft. As a result flight left 5 hours late and we missed connection in Copenhagen. Like you we were given a hotel and had a free day until evening in Copenhagen.

We claimed for the first flight which SAS paid up. 400 euro each if I remember. We also claimed for the re-booked flight the next day as it was a separate delay. At first SAS tried to wriggle out claiming they had already paid us once. We pressed that it was a separate cancelllation and cited some EU regulation. Eventually they capitulated and paid up 2 x 400 Euro again.
