Possible unauthorized transaction - charity donation

I've just noticed a small £2 card transaction to a charity on my statement. I only made one other transaction that day so I'm wondering if it's one of them where a charity donation has been added on at the point of sale and I've missed it?
Just wondering where I stand legally. I did not press anything to add the donation, the only thing I did was hover my card over the machine after the retailer presented the card machine to me.
Am I able to challenge this, or is it legally my fault for not checking the amount on the machine?
I have the receipt from the purchase and there is no mention of this extra £2 on there.

Who is the retailer? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Wasn't sure if I'm allowed to name or not hence not including it in my OP. It's GSF car parts and British Legion. A quick Google shows 2 trust pilot reviews that show the same thing happening to the reviewers.1

You need to go back to the retailer initially and check if they are doing any charity donations at the moment. If they are then query their process. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Thanks. I'll take it up with them in the first instance. Assuming worst case and they won't budge and say it's my fault, is this something I can take up with the CC company?elsien said:You need to go back to the retailer initially and check if they are doing any charity donations at the moment. For the sake of £2?If it were me, I would just concentrate on making sure the company weren’t doing this to anyone else if it wasn’t explained to you at any point. However, if you insist, information here.

It's the principle of it not the amount. I'll even donate the £2 to BL separately after if it does get reversed. I'm also worried in case it's some ongoing payment thing (like a monthly thing) I've signed up for without realising.elsien said:For the sake of £2?If it were me, I would just concentrate on making sure the company weren’t doing this to anyone else if it wasn’t explained to you at any point. However, if you insist, information here.

Even though it is to charity they should absolutely not be doing this i.e taking money from your credit card without your knowledge.
You might also contact BL and see if they can tell you if they are even getting the money0 -
I think you're right to query it. It's been heard that someone who has taken your card details will 'test the water' with a small payment.
If it is a legitimate payment to BL then the retailer is using doubtful means for charity donations. I'm sure you'd remember if you were asked and it should show on your receipt.0 -
Shouldn't it be Royal British Legion if it's a legitimate charity.Make £2025 in 2025
