I had one other quote of £2,800.  However this was from a call centre I.e. they said they would only inspect the boiler on the day they replace it.  The company I have chosen recently replaced my neighbours boiler and they were happy with the work.

You can also get a quote direct from Worcester. I have a customer who needs a new boiler, their quote is for an 8000+ 35KW system boiler, a more expensive boiler than yours. 

The quote was £3125 with a 12 year guarantee.

That's a fair price to be honest. A straight combi-for-combi swap is the cheap job at £1,800-£2,800, but you're converting from a standard boiler, so there's the extra pipework, taking out the cylinder and tank, the condensate run and so on, which takes a proper conversion up to around £3,300-£4,800. £3,179 for a WB 4000 with the 10 year guarantee sits right in that bracket, and it's a good boiler.

I'd actually be more wary of the £2,800 "we'll price it on the day" one. Those have a habit of creeping up once they're in and find the flue or gas run needs work, and by then you've no comeback. Get both to put in writing exactly what's included: flue, magnetic filter, chemical flush, condensate, and what keeps the 10 year Worcester guarantee valid (registered installer, usually an annual service). The one who itemises it properly is normally the one to trust, not just the lower number.

I've looked at the first page, skimmed through and skimmed the other pages.

Having a boiler breakdown, needing new one in winter, a harsh winter is going to mean you may have to wait a couple of weeks and the price in my view is often a bit, if not substaially more ie suply/deamnd etc.

Ours is working, we have BG insurance, temepted to get it changed as its 15 years old broken down once not servived for several years is a Valiant combi

ASHP time? Check out Heatgeeks. Yes you need to pay for a survey but they normally recommend you don’t have to replace all your radiators as BG and Octopus might do

But replacing radiators for larger ones does have benefits. You can run at a lower flow temperature which improves efficiency.

We had a Vaillant heat only boiler replaced with a WB one - pretty much like for like. It was £2300 in Surrey back in 2024.
