Sorry for clarity. The designer and blind manufacturer are two different people.

The designer commissioned the blind fitter.

The blind fitter measured the sizes and we always said to everyone we wanted them outside of the window recess, to which nobody questioned.

We do have a set from a different supplier that are made to fit outside of the recess.

The blind maker states that because some measurements were on a quote and we paid a deposit that we are agreeing, despite me being unable to make any direct contact with her.  Also, as I am not a blind maker/fitter i wouldn't know what the right measurements should be

That is who you need to take it up with.
I don't think we can be sure of that without knowing exactly who was told exactly what.

If the blind fitter was commissioned by the designer, how do we know the designer didn't give the blind fitter the wrong instructions?

Did the OP give the blind fitter any instructions?

If the OP bought the blinds from the designer and the designer commissioned the blind fitter, anything the blind fitter does wrong is the designer's problem.

I don't think we have enough info

I agree we don't have enough info.

The precise wording and numbers in the quote is critical in deciding whether or not the blinds conform to contract. What exactly does that quote say?

I don't think I agree with 'I wouldn't know what the measurements would be as i'm not a professional blind fitter.'

If your window reveal is 100cm wide and the quote says the blind will be made 98cm wide, you don't need to be a professional fitter to know that this isn't going to end well.

    OP replied with

That is the person trying to go a legal route as we haven't paid the second 50%

I agree it is not very clear on who was paid etc.
