BT sending security code to wrong number

Does anyone know how many different places BT store a phone number for you ?
I set my bt account ( ie on bt.com, where my personal info is ) to my main mobile number but every time I contact them about different issues they insist on sending a code to another mobile number which fortunately I still have.
If I ask about it I never get a sensible answer ( one agent said 'it's because I have more details than you' !! ) and I daren't ask them to change it in case it makes things worse. Ideally I need to know how many and which systems they are storing a phone number on before doing anything.
Any ideas ? Thanks.

No idea, but Vodafone have three mobile numbers for me, all of which I still have, one of which is on Vodafone, I get to choose which one the OTP is sent to (would prefer 2FA with app but hey-ho).
Given how, er, interesting Vodafone's CS can be I haven't dared trying to fix this.1 -
Trying to get numbers removed from various bodies for OTP Usage has proved to be very difficult! We no longer have our landline number but it seems impossible to remove it from some verification systems, even with banks who don't have the number within our profile details.0
