November 2025 Grocery Challenge

I have moved a carrier bag of 2-portions of meat in to the freezer drawer in the kitchen, and the little FF in the toolshed, immediately outside the kitchen door. The big chest freezer is still looking pretty full to me but we are at least, seeing a bit of daylight. I hope to defrost it early next year, and then move all the produce from the catering upright in the pig shed (meanwhile, I keep raiding that for homegrown F&V. The fifth freezer,
another upright, is full of frames of drawn comb, recovered from a honey bee colony that the wasps killed. We freeze them to kill any traces of wax moth.
I will need more veg before the end of the month, and maybe butter and eggs. Up to £190.71 with next week's milk bill in there.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £10,020.92 out of £6000 after September

£29.80 spent this morning on fresh fruit & veg to see us through the next week, provided it's just the 3 of us! Which was within my self-imposed budget of £30 - phew. I've done a swift audit of what's in the freezers etc. & we should be able to "coast" through the rest of the month, eating up what's already there, with £55 per week to spend on the things that I really do need to buy fresh. Family contingencies allowing...Angie - GC Nov 25 £416.40/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 40/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7

10/11 DH bought milk and grapes from Asda.
£3.32 spent.
Shopped at Aldi on the way home yesterday, ahead of Storm Claudia.
The cauliflower and pomegranate were on offer. I added some small red onions.
The medium chicken was 1.78kg for £4.25, heavier than some of the large chickens. It works out at £2.39 a kilo, the only waste will be a handful of bones after they have been simmered for stock.
£19.87 spent.
£61.57 spent out of £150.

I did a freezer inventory at the start of the week and will be using things from there over the next couple of weeks which I hope will keep costs down, save time by using ready cooked meals and free up some space for Christmas goodies and leftovers.
DH treated me to a £10 bottle of delicious wine but although it was his treat I'll take it from the grocery budget anyway. It's the thought that counts 😉
£215.00 remaining7 -
@moginstein and @LotsOfTea - Thank you. I couldn't quite see the stuff as edible without something being added. Will try working with it. Its now about 35p here too.5

The total spend for the first week of my month comes to £22, using Lidl, Aldi and Sainsbury. I'm trying to keep it low as the freezer is full to the brim with foraged fruit and home made ready meals. I'm away most of next week visiting family, which will mean contributing to the cost of some meals, but that s coming out of a different budget.Grocery challenge 2025: £1315/1500 annual budget5

First spends were £6.21 (I had a gift card aswell) at Am@zon on Aksoy Bulgur wheat. - 10kg. So, should keep me going a while 😄. Got two x 5kg bags; as no doubt next time, it will have gone up in price.
That’s a really good price on bulgar wheat @K9sandFelines, especially as supermarkets charge £2 for 500g. I think I’ll have to go and investigate. Did you buy coarse or fine?

I spent £8.13 yesterday on a lovely sourdough loaf and some puy lentils and couscous. £4.80 of that was the bread but it's a treat as mostly I make my own bread but I don't think I've got the patience for making sourdough!
I'm up to £94.79/£3005 -

Hi Pip I think it's course, but I'm not entirely sure as I've only ever bought it once before, and that was the Bodrum brand. I had some tonight and the grains seem quite large. Very nice indeed.PipneyJane said:K9sandFelines said:

Definitely, go and stock up whilst you can. I'm going to use it instead of brown rice
The price was for each 5kg bag, but the way I've worded it looks ambiguous reading it back now.GC 2025 so far £1267.70/£1530 Nov13th - Dec12th = £94.64/180 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. Two person vegan household, with occasional visitors)Join me on the meal plan thread : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6356309/could-we-start-a-meal-plan-thread-again-so-its-not-lost-in-the-gc/p1Forever learning the art of frugality3
