Tiling

Do you tile a bathroom before you fit the bath or after?

That's what my plumber says but I don't fancy putting a ladder in to a new bath to tile to the ceiling

i always thought you fit, level and secure the bath first. Then tile, then fill the bath with water and then fill the gap with flexible waterproof silicone sealant.

You can fix a 2x1 batten to the wall and tile over it. Then fit the bath, remove the batten and tile down to the bath.

I guess you could tile the wall down close to where the bath comes up to, fit the bath then finish the tiling around it?

I think that's what I'll have to do, I've never done any tiling before but after getting a price for the job I haven't much choice

Before you start work out where the cuts are going. The most important tile is the first one. Make sure you get the batten dead level.
  • @stuart45 is bang on. Screw the batten on first then work from that, although you shouldn’t need a ladder. How high are your ceilings?!

I tiled my bathroom to the ceiling, similar height. One foot on either side of the bath for the high up bits. Took my socks off for added grip

I tiled mine so that a whole tile started at the bath, pretty sure that's the standard end to start on, but someone may say different. Bear that in mind if you do some before the bath is fitted.
