Might sound flippant but: 1) Contact the seller. 2) Ask for remittance details 3) Pay the seller.

Or did you buy via a specific platform, which has recorded it as lost/refunded, and you want to ensure that's corrected? If so, which one?

Same question: why not just contact seller and pay them, unless there is a particular reason you want to do it via ebay?

As above, as you have a transaction with seller you can message them and ask for payment details. Sometimes the system still tries to prevent you sending email addresses, so if you agree to use PayPal just use the old fashioned way of using ‘dot’ or similar to disguise it. Otherwise use bank transfer as sort code and account number should get through.

I was simply asking if there was a way that it should be done as doing things outside the Ebay "rules" can often have undesired consequences.

Was it simple delivery? (Parcel label should say ebay simple delivery if it is) If so the seller should not be out of pocket as ebay deals with evri and takes on the risk.  What does the item tracking say (on eBay and on evri). You should probably contact ebay and let them sort out payments, otherwise the seller may end up being paid twice (and ebay might reverse your refund if they get proof of delivery)

Yes, SD.  Tracking on Ebay and Evri is showing as delivered.  Might just leave it a couple of days and wait and see what happens then, if seller get funds reclaimed they will likely contact me or Ebay might be chasing me for their dosh - maybe they more than cover their losses / costs with the BPF.
edit .  Just read up on it and as soon as the seller gets a handed over scan then all liability rests with Ebay so it would be up to them to invoice / chase me for payment.

What was the item value? And how long was it missing for? So long as the delivery tracking says after the date of the refund I'd expect ebay to let it go. Obviously the item value will come into play. If the item is delayed well beyond reasonable expectations that will play a part too.

£35 all in.  I reported INR after 3 days of tracking showing item delayed and will be delivered in next 24 hours each day, which is usually the code for we've lost it,  the first being 3 days after Ebay expected delivery date.  I was surprised when I got the refund e-mail whilst I was still in the Ebay page raising the INR, I was expecting at least a couple days of "investigation".

The seller most likely has a refund from eBay anyways as it was covered under simple delivery. If you now contact and pay the seller directly, the seller will have received payment for the item twice!

At this point I would just keep the item. If you really want to go the extra mile, contact eBay - not the seller. Inform them of what's happened and they will either ask you to pay them, or tell you to keep the item - most likely the latter.
