Return flight to LHR from Washington DCA

Hi,

After some advice please.  Returned from Washington DC earlier this week to Heathrow.  All our flights were booked via Virgin.  Our original return was booked to fly from Washington DCA to Boston and then from BOS to LHR.  The first trip was operated by Republic Airline and the second by Virgin.

We had a message from Virgin on the afternoon of our departure telling us our flight was cancelled and they were rebooking us.  It didn't inform us which flight was cancelled. We left for Washington DCA airport early to discuss this in person.  At the desk they changed our internal USA flight to change at Atlanta (rather than Boston) and then from Atlanta to LHR.  Both of these altered flights were with Delta.

We arrived into LHR 3 hours later than our original booking.  Due to the late arrival into LHR we missed our national express coach home and had to pay an addition fee to change our coach tickets.

Looking at the flight data it appears that the first flight operated by Republic Airline was cancelled i.e. DCA to BOS and the Virgin flight from BOS to LHR ran as normal.

I assume as the cancelled flight was internal within the USA we can't claim any compensation for the delayed flight?  Are we able to claim a refund on the coach fees?

Many thanks.

might be worth checking your travel insurance policy to see if they cover it (assuming it is a larger amount than your excess)
