Obviously if you paint on the foil it will no longer reflect light, but will it continue to reflect infrared heat well - even if not quite as well as if it wasn't painted?

The computer sayeth no [A copy and Paste]Painting directly onto reflective foil behind a radiator is not recommended if you want to preserve its heat-reflecting effectiveness. Here's why:🪞 Reflectivity MattersReflective foil works by bouncing radiant heat back into the room. Its shiny surface—usually aluminum—is key to this. Painting it, especially with matte or opaque paint, reduces its reflectivity, meaning more heat gets absorbed or lost into the wall.🧪 Material ImpactEven thin layers of paint can:• Diminish thermal performance• Trap moisture or cause peeling over time• Potentially degrade the foil’s surface if the paint contains solvents🔧 Better AlternativesIf aesthetics or damage are a concern:• Use a removable decorative panel in front of the radiator instead of painting the foil• Consider foil-backed insulation boards that are more durable and can be hidden behind a radiator coverAccording to MoneySavingExpert Forum and BestHeating, the foil’s effectiveness depends heavily on its surface condition—so keeping it clean and unpainted is best.0
