The best and totally foolproof defence is to be aware of the speed limit at all times and ensure you don't exceed itfacade said:Best defence is an up to date speed camera database with an alarm, Waze will do.Obviously you can drive at below 20mph all the time that you are in Wales too
Why people seem content to entrust their licence to unreliable apps and other IT never ceases to scare me.
What's wrong with eyes?3 -
Yet there it is, clearly visible even in the Streetview pics, from 100m away.facade said:I'd argue that they are difficult to spot amongst other street furniture before you are caught, which is the intention!
11 seconds, at the speed limit.Obviously you can drive at below 20mph all the time that you are in Wales too
You don't need to do 20 ALL the time. Just in the bits that are 20 limit. Which isn't even all of the old urban default that was 30, because a lot of that still IS 30.
Same rules as ever apply...
Repeaters? That's the limit.
Streetlights? Urban default, 30 in England, 20 in Wales.
Count the carriageways to know if NSL is 60 or 70.
It's a radical thought, isn't it? Obeying the speed limit reduces your chances of being nicked for speeding. Who knew?
Complaining you don't like road laws doesn't make you immune from obeying them. Reducing the default urban limit in Wales has saved 900 people from being injured in less than two years. That's pretty damn effective.3 -
I said just that on another motoring site. Basically, look out of the window and keep an eye on your speedo.
I was branded a Luddite and a dinosaur. One of my accusers was seeking advice after having been caught doing 68mph in a 50mph limit and was facing a totting up ban. This old Luddite has zero points.

Plus a speed camera warning sign in advance of it (at least if approaching from the west).Mildly_Miffed said:

At the risk of hijacking the original post - and a targeted, rather than blanket, introduction would have had the same effect without costing £33 million.Mildly_Miffed said:It's a radical thought, isn't it? Obeying the speed limit reduces your chances of being nicked for speeding. Who knew?

Interesting they so often claim that there were X serios/fatal accidents in the previous 5 years. A road near me claimed X accidents that were the result of boy racers doing exactly that racing. The signs that tell us that were put up at thet tiime - FIFTEEN years ago so are incorrect0

Modern cars often have a camera that reads signs and displays the speed limit on the instrument cluster. Add Waze, and one way or another you should get bleeped at when over the limit.

These camera's are often wrong. As they pick up signs that have been angled.Frozen_up_north said:Modern cars often have a camera that reads signs and displays the speed limit on the instrument cluster. Add Waze, and one way or another you should get bleeped at when over the limit.
We have a lot near us. Thankfully they pick up a lower limit, as they are side roads. Same with some junctions, where the road goes from one speed to another as you cross the junction. Even turning left of rights picks the sign up from the road you are not on.
Same with any navigation system they are only as good as last update.

Got caught speeding on 17 Sep and asked for evidence as I can't remember being flashed. Not sure if reading the calibration certificate right but the inspection is in date but the calibration has expired. See below for cert
Valid for one year from calibration inspection date which is 19/01/250
