The "Interesting" Feature

I've noticed that below each post there is now an option to tag it as "Interesting". What is this, and what does it do?
(Apologies if I've missed an announcement about this ... I only first noticed this new feature yesterday).

Hi @Jenni_D
There is a post on the Community Noticeboard:
New Feature: Mark post 'Interesting'
It doesn't do anything different from 'Thanks'. It's just giving you another option to mark a post if you think 'Thanks' doesn't seem quite right.
The more we can get our members to 'React' to posts, the better we are able to find and highlight great content. For example, the Trending Sort isn't as useful as it could be because it favours new threads and doesn't get enough signals about threads.Join the MSE Forum

One example of where it may help: When someone posts a new thread, the reader might think it's a good question or raises an interesting point, but 'Thanks' doesn't seem quite right. So the thread is left without a reaction despite being a quite interesting thread.Join the MSE Forum

Out of curiosity, is this a feature included automatically within a new release of the underlying Vanilla software, or one previously available but not enabled, or something actively requested as an enhancement?1 -

We could clutter the footer of posts with all sorts of reactions: 'Awesome', 'LOL', 'Like', 'Agree', 'Insightful' - and several negative reactions.
Our goal is to keep things simple and positive.Join the MSE Forum
