The "Interesting" Feature

I've noticed that below each post there is now an option to tag it as "Interesting". What is this, and what does it do?

(Apologies if I've missed an announcement about this ... I only first noticed this new feature yesterday).

I've just tagged that as 'interesting' so you should be able to see what happens!  It seems to be an alternative to thanking a post, but is potentially a solution looking for a problem....
    We'll have to see! :)

One example of where it may help: When someone posts a new thread, the reader might think it's a good question or raises an interesting point, but 'Thanks' doesn't seem quite right. So the thread is left without a reaction despite being a quite interesting thread.

...and as another example of its use. I did decide to mark your post 'interesting', but thanking you might have felt like I was agreeing that we were doing something not useful!   :D

Likewise, I tagged yours about the desire for increased member interaction as interesting (but without necessarily agreeing that it's useful!)....

Out of curiosity, is this a feature included automatically within a new release of the underlying Vanilla software, or one previously available but not enabled, or something actively requested as an enhancement?
