unknown direct debit

Morning all i,ve just found a direct debit that i am not aware of setting up! its a R & B Somerset council DD nothing has been paid to it yet! anyone any ideas as to what it is! is it a scam! thanks

My obvious council related ones are council tax and the annual one for garden waste collection....

Do you provide sort codes and account numbers to parking apps? I never have.

OP its unlikely to be a "scammer", its a pretty high bar that has to be reached for an organisation to be able to set up a direct debit, a random bloke in Nigeria couldnt do it.

Is there no originators ID or reference attached to it ?

Something to do with Rates & Business, perhaps ??  Do you own/rent a premises that's liable for business rates?

1. Maybe, Rent & Benefits or Rates & Billing relating to Somerset Council charges.

2. Contact Somerset Council and ask them

It's not the obvious ones: the brown garden bin is paid to Somerset Waste, and council tax is collected under the old sub-authority name (Sedgemoor, Mendip etc...)

Well spotted. Hopefully this will fully resolve the OP's concerns as and if they come back.
