Message alert

I have an iPhone XR. iOS 18.6.2.
I have sounds checked for Messages (Anticipate), sometimes I get an alert, but often I do not. Any ideas?

Do you have "Do Not Disturb" scheduled?

When you say you get an alert, do you mean  you hear the  notification tone? Or do you mean there is a banner at the top of the screen notifying you of the message? 

Is one or both of these missing?

It is during the day sometimes I get the alert, often I do not.
I mean the notification tone, not banner

The first thing to do is check that the Silent switch is working properly. Try to switch it a few times and make sure it works. 

Next try making sure Do Not Disturb is not active

Next go into Sounds and Haptics and make sure a tone is selected and the volume is turned up.

Next, make sure your firmware is upto date. I think you should be on iOS 18.7.1
