Has anyone managed to negotiate their redundancy package?

wow that is a decent package, what did they initially offer? Before i sign the without prejudice settlement agreemnt worth a try not to accept first offer. Economy not the best currently but do not think they are doing things correctly. One role two of us but the other person still working and both not going through the process.gadger999 said:I got made redundant last year...we had an amazing sceme in place, negotiated by the union...4 weeks for every year upto 40 years old ..40 -50 years old 5 weeks....50 plus. 6 weeks...
I'd just hit 60 and 40 years service .. to say it was a no brainer is an understatement0 -
IIRC that was a scheme negotiated before the event by the union - and that’s exactly what you don’t have hence why their ‘enhanced’ off to you is 2wks per year.london21 said:

Benefits should last as long as the notice period. I kept a company car and health benefit package when on a notice period. While on notice you are still an employee, even if on garden leave.london21 said:

I would think the only negotiating leverage you have is if you can say that you feel aggrieved, but agree to go quietly if they up the payment to XX. But you have to get the balance right, you want something that is within grasp not outlandish and you need to come across as asking for a bit of leeway rather than some sort of blackmail. If you feel that they would worry about the amount becoming public, you can offer to sign an NDA if it helps them.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Some update.
We had first consultation yesterday. Next consultation next week.
The without prejudice settlement they have increased from 2 weeks to 3 weeks.
First meeting with my lawyer tomorrow.0 -
Honestly - unless you’re in a strong financial position or the ‘agreement’ contains clauses unacceptable to you I’d be looking to snap their hands off and get the agreement signed.london21 said:Some update.

I will try one more time. I am not been treated fairly overall. There are 2 at risk but only one put at risk and one going through the process.Wonka_2 said:

The economy not the best currently not the best time to be out of work.

"Fairness" counts for nothing, "lawfulness" counts for everything. Your employer can act unfairly (in your opinion) but they should not act unlawfully. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

You mention the preference your line manager has for your colleague. Unless you are confident that the scoring system has been tampered with - very difficult to demonstrate to a tribunal, it may be pragmatic to accept what others consider to be a decent settlement. Bear in mind that even if you won a battle involving the line manager and were not made redundant, it may be that you might find the aftermath unpleasant. That manager may seek to find sufficient fault to invoke disciplinary or capability procedures in extremis. They may also seek to make life hell and redundancy with a decent [perhaps agreed] reference may be a help towards finding another job. Whereas, an tetchy line manager may reduce the prospect of a decent reference ... damning with faint praise may be an impression given to a prospective future employer.0
