Changing broadband/TV supplier

My broadband / TV contract is coming to its end. I've been with Virgin Media since before it was Virgin (that is, Redeffusion, CableTel, NTL and now Virgin), but as usual I'm looking to see if a better deal is available. Sky looks interesting for £48/m; as a new Virgin customer I can beat that slightly, but getting that deal as an existing customer may not be possible.

I'm wondering, with Black Friday on the not too distant horizon, if it's worth waiting to see what deals are available then.

What does the audience say?

Black Friday is all smoke and mirrors in my opinion. Most Internet providers offer some kind of discount throughout the year on a regular basis the month of November is no different. They just put a different label on it, the following month it will just say Boxing Day sale starts today. No matter who you're with, you'll always get the best deal by switching to a different provider.

You can generally get some good deals on comparison sites throughout the year. Only suggestion I would have is to look at what TV you actually want - you can generally get quite a lot for free through freeview or freesat, so you only really need to pay a tv subscription if you're adding sports/movies etc. You can get broadband only deals for much cheaper than £48/m.

If you want the same package, virgin media will often have offers when you call and threaten to cancel, so you could see what they say.

    £48 is TV and broadband.

Maybe I didn't communicate to Virgin very well last time, as I said I wanted the same package but it cut just about everything to match a price. But I'll give them a call again to see what I can get.

Makes sense - I was just checking you were actually using the paid TV part, or if you were just paying a subscription fee for their set-top box and essentially freeview.
