Coop everyday extra current account

My brother who will be 79 years old next month is thinking of going on a cruise next June and was pricing travel insurance and the cheapest he could get it because of his and his wife's health is £600 approx.
If he was to open a joint Coop everyday extra current account and paid the £17 a month until next June and also any necessary payments and withdrawals then cancel the account when he returned from his cruise it would only cost him £136.
Is this feasible?
He used to have a Nationwide account with travel insurance but now he is too old.

many of these packaged bank account holiday insurance exclude people over a certain age. I'd check that out. And if he isn't excluded on age he might be on health issues. While it's perfectly possible that someone 79yo may be perfectly healthy all it might take is one advisory on his record already or between now and then to cause a problem. My OH who is much younger than your brother had a couple of health issues that caused our PBA holiday insurance to be cancelled - they wouldn't even cover him for having a suitcase go missing let alone anything medical.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Co-op's max age is 80. He'd be fine until his 80th birthday.0

He would need to contact them about their pre-existing conditions - that is a condition if opening the account - and if they do continue to cover (they may not) he will have to pay an extra premium. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

Nationwide Flexplus travel insurance £18pm, is now underwritten by Aviva. No age limit specified. Worth a look?0 -
IIRC, the cover is for holidays costing max £5,000. Is that enough for your brother?0

I would suggest you look up who provides the Co-op travel insurance and get a dummy quote out with the Co-op account from them, declaring all their medical issues and see how that works out...the basic travel insurance provided for just paying the Co-op monthly fee will probably not cover any unusual medical issues.JohnSwift10 said:My brother who will be 79 years old next month is thinking of going on a cruise next June and was pricing travel insurance and the cheapest he could get it because of his and his wife's health is £600 approx.

I will tell him that but even if he had to pay a couple of hundred pounds extra it would still be cheaper than what he has been quoted using comparison sites.harz99 said:

The cruise is not booked yet he is just looking at options, he may never go.
He also has to renew their passports.

I might try that for myself as I am over 80, I still have my Flex Account though the balance is £0 I suppose I could upgrade it, The last cruise I had was before covid, I had one booked but it was cancelled because of covid and I got my money back.badger09 said:

I've never been on a holiday since.0 -
To pay £136 at £17/month until next June would mean paying 8 instalments - either paying November to June inclusive or starting earlier and completing the cruise earlier.JohnSwift10 said:My brother who will be 79 years old next month is thinking of going on a cruise next June and was pricing travel insurance and the cheapest he could get it because of his and his wife's health is £600 approx.

Co-Op charge £18/month as standard if no extra charges are incurred because of pre-existing conditions.
As in an earlier post, Nationwide's offer is also £18/month. In order to open the account he would have to contact Aviva and obtain a quote as a potential Nationwide bank account customer. So he would find out at that point, before actually opening the current account, whether they would cover the health issues and, if so, what it might cost in addition.0
