    I am with EDF on a fixed term contract till April next year. However the new British gas was much cheaper enen with £50 penalty to leave. I applied for British Gas group Tariff and all going through as planned. Yesterday I got mail from EDF offering £100 to stay. Called them, accepted offer and changed to their cheaper Fixed tariff with no £50 penalty. Hope this helps someone else and proves it pays to shop around.

    I initiated the switch to British Gas via the Cheap Energy Club last Thursday, and have had this email from BG today.

    "Dear ----,

    Thank you for your Interest in the British Gas.

    We recognise we have some system issues that we need to address. One of the issues we have is that if there is already an account in our system with the same contact details as being used in this request, then this will show up as a duplicate request, and we are therefore unable to register your supply for the new request using the details you have provided.

    We can get this request put through for you but would require alternative contact details. If you could provide me with a different email and phone number, then I can get this request amended and manually put through for you to carry on as normal.

    We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    Iv'e not been with British Gas for many years so don't understand why they haven't de-activated any old account , but this has brought back memories of previous difficulties with them. I also only have one telephone number and don't intend to get another to solve their problems. I'm not prepared to mess around with them. I have told them to cancel the transfer!
    I wonder if something similar may have happened to me, also with EDF, I went for the BG deal on the day it was announced but I’ve not heard anything, the MSE app says a switch is in progress but I have nothing. Not sure who I should be chasing or can I just start another switch and assume this one has got lost somewhere

    I switched to British Gas through the Big Energy Switch.   I received an email on 04.10.25 to say that the switch was completed.   However, the MSE app shows my previous supplier when I looked today.   Neither have I received my outstanding balance from Octopus.

    Have BG given you account details? Can you log in?
    Octopus have six weeks to send a final bill.

    BG doing my head in, MSE app says switch in process which I started on the 30th Sept but heard nothing from anybody since. Trying to contact BG is impossible unless you have an account it seems. Think I’m just going to kick off another switch to another provider

    I have done the switch on 7th October from EDF to octopus. According to the energy club my switch is in progress. Talked to octopus they have no record. Emailed mse help and after a couple of days they came back to me and said it is all going through. Still heard nothing so contacted octopus and they have no record of my switch. Emailed mse help again and heard nothing back from them. Pretty disappointed if I’m honest, my tariff switches next week with EDF.
