    From todays motley fool:
But both Abbey National (LSE: ANL.L - news - msgs) and the Halifax are about to offer a one-year market-leading fixed rate of 7% for regular savers. (The Abbey deal is better as you can save up to £6,000 over the year - twice as much at the Halifax - and the deal applies to existing customers of its Monthly Saver account too). With these accounts, at least your return is guaranteed.

  • I think I will put a couple of bob into the abbey then.

This "Another of our accounts and services you can confidently talk to customers
about is the Fixed Rate Monthly Saver. From tomorrow (16 October), the
interest rate is going up to 7% - and unlike some of our competitors, we're
making this available to existing customers. Another great reason to talk to
people about them and their money!"

came out on the intranet this morning but I couldn't get access to this at work to get the post up.

Better try to find some more money to put away each month after taking the 6.5% Regular saver last month - or maybe wait another month to see whats in the pipeline.

I'm would like sign up for this. I don't have Halifax's regular saver at the moment. But on the web site it just says 6.05% ?

Because the new rate doesn't start until tomorrow.

They'll probably update the website overnight or early tomorrow.

Is this worth the effort as you can only put £250 a month and then transfers to nominated account which looks like web saver at 4.90%. What is the actual differrence say to 5% interest account (can't be that much a few £ can it?). By the way I am interested!

    Just spoke to Abbey.

If you opened the previous Fixed Rate Monthly Saver at 6.50%, it will be increased to 7.00% for existing savers so you don't need to open another one. ;D

What about Halifax, will the rate increase for existing account holders or not?
