Can anyone please help me with this issue. I want to change my current Octopus tariff to the new Money Saving Octopus tariff. I've been a cheap energy club member for years but wasn't getting the money tips emails after signing up. Signed up again for the email with a different address and have since been getting emails through that one.

When I clicked on the link in the email to get the MSE Octopus tariff and signed in with the email address for the energy club I got this message

Unfortunately, you're not eligible for this tariff

This may be because it's not compatible with how you pay for energy (eg, it's Direct Debit only, and you pay by cash or cheque). Alternatively, it could be because your email address wasn't registered with Cheap Energy Club or subscribed to the MSE Money Tips email by Friday 26 September. The rules of a Collective Switch state that this Big Switch tariff can only be offered to a defined membership group.

If it's the latter, you've got three options:

  • If you receive the MSE Money Tips email (and were signed up by Friday), try restarting the Energy Club sign-up sign-up process using the email address we send the Tips email to.
  • If you were already a member of Cheap Energy Club before Friday, but with a different email address, log out and log back in using that email.
  • If neither of those apply, scroll down to see the cheapest deals available to you.
I do pay by direct debit and have been a member for years so tried to restart the sign in process with the email address the money tips are sent to, as advised. It said I needed to change my password and a code would be sent to my email address but have tried three times and still no code after 30 minutes. What can I do now?

There have been a few people with similar poblems.
Have you tried changing your current supplier in the Cheap Energy Club (not in reality!) to one that isn't Octopus?

Thanks, I've deleted the dupe 🙂

  • I'm having the exact same issue. I've changed supplier in the MSE settings and still get the same error.

Same issues here, logged in/out a few times and tried changing parameters, nothing seems to work.
  • Also the same. Super frustrating!

Another to add to the list.
Managed to log in. Took about 20 minutes to confirm my address after resetting my password. Then I was told I'm not eligible.
Not a new member either. I've been in the CEC for over 8 years.

    Edit:
    Oops!

It looks like something has gone wrong while looking up your address.

Please check your connection and try again in a few moments.

is taking half any hour to negotiate. I'm guessing server overload.

  • Yet another deemed ineligible - yet only 7 days since I received confirmation of the cashback payment for my last switch.
Several switches under my belt, so keen to take advantage of this one
    What is going on?

+1. The first step for the address lookup took a few attempts and timeouts, maybe everyone is rushing to get the deal and the system is overloaded!?

I am currently on British Gas standard variable tariff. According to MSE Cheap Energy Club email received today 02/10/2025 I should be eligible for Collective Switch to "British Gas 14mth fix for both new & crucially existing customers". However, I received the response "Unfortunately, you're not eligible for this tariff". I pay by direct debit and I have been a member of the cheap energy club for many years but have changed my address. Could the change of address be the reason for refusal; if so, it is not mentioned as a reason for refusal.
