Guide to buying Ugg Australia boots!

Options
As the Ugg thread has become extremely long, people have requested a breakdown of the Ugg information. Please read this before duplicating questions. Post any money saving finds or questions on suspicious websites.

This year Short Classic boots are retailing at £140 and Tall Classics at £170.

Q. The label has a big G so they are genuine?

A. No, there are many fakes of these actual brand of boots, they are counterfeit copies of the brand and will not meet the same quality, many are not made of sheepskin and will not last. Be wary of Ebay bargains, many are fake! If the main sites recommended are out stock, steer clear of people who are advertising loads of stock available. Ugg Australia only supply to selected stores, if the main sites mentioned are out of stock for weeks ahead then ask yourself where would these sellers manage to get their stock from!

Q. Where do I buy genuine uGg Australia branded boots then ?

(online stockists, taken from recommendation from MSE's who have bought with no problems)

A.

* UGG AUSTRALIA
* BOOTBARN
* COZYBOOTS
* REI
* ASOS
* SCHUH
* SHUDOO
* MUSE SHOES
* TAYLOR SHOES

Q. What size do i need?

A. Check how the sizes are advertised a US womens size is 2 sizes out to uk sizing. Example a US W6 or M6 is a UK 4.

Q. Will I be charged customs charges from US sites?

A. All international orders stand the risk of customs charges, if customs check the package you will be charged, if the item is marked 'low value' & 'gift' there is a lesser chance of customs but IF they check the contents and decided the item is not as stated then they can still place charges on the goods. The buyer is fully responsible for any charges.

Q. Kids boots are not chargeable are they?

A. Yes, Ugg boots are classed by customs as 'fur' so are not excluded from customs fees even in childrens sizes.

Q. How much are customs charges?

A. On average people have been charged between £20 and £30, some even more! The carrier company charge an admin fee on top which varies between companies and can alter the total by a fair bit. The 'tariff' used by customs can also be different on each pair. I had 2 deliveries of exactly the same boots one was £21, the other was £30 so there is no set value. Be prepared to add this extra cost as it may knock the price up drastically.

Q. Are there some sites which seem to escape customs more than others?

A. Cozyboots use Fedex, all MSE's who have bought from here seem to have been charged. The ones that seem to be more random with charges are delivered by Parcelforce.

Q. What about Aussiedirect?

A. This year Aussie Direct do not ship to the UK.

Q. I have found a site on google with a low priced pair in stock, should I buy them?

A. A lot of scams are being set up to lure Ugg buyers into parting with their money, they either have fake boots or no boots to sell. Be wary and research before parting with your money. PLEASE PLEASE take note of this if they are cheap they are most likely fake, any offer too good to be true with Ugg boots really is!

Hope this helps, if anyone has anything to add please do so, I just wanted to help the people who have not got days to read the 100 odd pages. ;)

  • Great stuff Mookie!

    Any boot that has a label hanging from it is fake 9usually the labels are blue). If the seller says it comes with a protective bag they are fake. Most of the boots sold on Gumtree have both.

    Excellent Mookie

    Also, inside the boot is a label and if it has a square around the size then this also shows they are FAKE.

    There's a useful guide on eBay to help spot some of the more obvious fakes, worth a look if you are new to buying Uggs:

  • I've just bought a pair of ugg boots off e-bay. They were advertised as uggs, came in an ugg box, had an ugg booklet and a so called authentic document with them and they are lined with a synthetic fabric. Cost me £73 form a seller listed as WESTWELL76. I just want to warn all other buyers off so they don't get ripped off too. I have e-mailed the seller who, as yet, has failed to reply. I have reported the situation to e-bay and will start the dispute process as soon as I am able, after 15th of February. I am livid.
    Has anyone else had the same problem? Lisa P

    Seller finally refunded me via paypal. She reckons she was conned herself! I have since bought a pair of kids sheepskin boots on-line from a company called Grommies (www.grommies.co.uk). They cost me £38 and are genuine sheepskin, similar design to uggs and just as comfy. I haven't taken them off since they arrived. I normally take a size 6 in adults boots but I ordered a size 5 knowing that the sheepskin would mold to my feet. Top class boots and they seem like a really cool company. Lisa

    I used to have Ugg boots approx 20 years ago when I was at school in Newquay, they were made in Newquay and great.
    I have had many 'discussions' with people about having Ugg boots 20 years ago. Have a look at http://www.celtic-sheepskin.co.uk/cat_footwear.asp

    "Ugg boot" was a term used in Australia for many years to describe the style of Sheepskin Boots worn by surfers to keep their feet warm after spending hours in the sea. These surfers, many of them travellers, brought the Ugg boot to Newquay in Cornwall in about 1973. Ever since, ugg boots, later renamed to Celt Boots have been made in Newquay.

    In Aug 1990 the business was bought by Nick Whitworth, who in 1991 registered the term UGG as a registered UK trademark in the international class 25 division of footwear – No 1,326,567.

    For the next 6 years trading continued under the name of The Original Ugg Co and with ever increasing sales the popularity of Ugg spread around the UK, with a decision being made to concentrate on selling via mail order and of course via the web.

    In 1994 Brian Smith from the USA company of Ugg Holdings contacted Nick and came over to Newquay to discuss the purchase of the rights to use the term Ugg. Negotiations slowed whilst Ugg Holdings were taken over by Deckers, but finally in 1996 an agreement was reached whereby Deckers licensed the use of Ugg with an option to purchase at a later date.

    In the mean time Nick in Newquay changed the company name from The Original Ugg Co to The Celtic Sheepskin Co and changed the wording on the boot label from Ugg to Celt. Almost all of Celtic Sheepskin’s huge range of Celt boots are made in Newquay from 100% real sheepskin.

    The term ugg is now registered to the Deckers corporation. by the original Ugg company The Celtic Sheepskin Co began in the mid 1970s, making Ugg Boots and assorted leather goods. Since then, the company has steadily expanded to become one of the largest suppliers of sheepskin footwear and soft furnishings in the UK.
