Warning: DAZN PPV “one-off” fight tricked me into a subscription (£74.97 lost before refund)

Hi all,

I wanted to share my experience with DAZN because I know a lot of boxing fans use it for the big fights, and I don’t want anyone else to get caught like I did.

On 21 July 2025, I paid £24.99 to watch the Usyk vs Dubois fight. The checkout page made it look like there were two options:

  • Annual subscription (fight included), or
  • £24.99 one-off purchase for the fight.

I chose the one-off option. What wasn’t made clear is that DAZN had also enrolled me into a 7-day free trial, which then rolled straight into a monthly subscription at £24.99.

Here’s what happened:

  • 21 July – £24.99 taken (the PPV).
  • 28 July – another £24.99 taken.
  • 27 August – another £24.99 taken.
In total, they took £74.97 for what should have been a single PPV.

Their own customer support admitted in writing that:

“On 19 July 2025, you purchased the Usyk vs Dubois PPV… along with a 7-day free trial. As the trial was not cancelled before its expiry, it automatically rolled over into a Monthly Flex subscription…”

That “trial” was never explained at checkout.

Luckily, my bank (Halifax) investigated, refunded me in full, and blocked DAZN from taking more. They also found extra charges I hadn’t even noticed.

Since then, DAZN has changed their system so that PPV purchases now redirect to your phone with a pop-up warning before you confirm payment. This is proof that the original process was unclear and misleading.

I’m going to report them to Citizens Advice/Trading Standards, ASA and CMA, and I’ve also left reviews on Trustpilot and social media to warn others.

Advice: If you’ve bought a PPV from DAZN recently, please check your bank statements carefully. You may have been paying for a subscription you never knowingly agreed to.

Simon

I'm not a big fan of DAZN either - they do seem to be very shifty when you try and subscribe to them.

I pay £99 a year for the years subscription to all National League matches and it took quite a long time to actually find and accept the offer -  there were several times in the sign up where they tried to trick me into paying £9.99 a month for 12 months instead.

The coverage itself is great for Non-League football, but i don't see why they have to be so underhand about subscriptions.
