What does the ignore feature actually do?

I assume it doesn't block, otherwise it would be called block, not ignore. Request un-ironic answers only.

    As far as I'm aware you simply don't see posts made by the poster you are ignoring - although they may be visible if another psoter quotes them.

    That's exactly how it works. I have a few people who post in ways I find irritating on ignore.

    That's exactly how it works. I have a few people who post in ways I find irritating on ignore.
    It also removes you from any private messages with the ignored user. I've only used the ignore feature on one user but they got banned so I don't use the feature these days.

    You'll also see the opening post of any thread that the ignored poster makes (as well as replies by everyone else).
    I've got half a dozen on my ignore list. It's improved my forum experience noticeably!
