Depositing a cheque

Hi folks. I recently closed an account with Nationwide and they issued me a cheque for a large sum (over £1000). I'm struggling to see how I can deposit the sum with either of my 2 other accounts, one with Chase, the other with Virgin Money. Any advice, please?
ps there is no way I'm going to be tempted into putting this cheque into an envelope, as per the PO system, and letting it out of my sight in the naive hope that somehow it will travel through a system safely and as if by magic arrive safely in an account with my name on. That's just way too trusting for my liking.

You should be able to use the app for either of these banks to deposit the cheque by scanning the front and the back of it.1

As for Virgin Money - "pay it in at the Post Office with a pre-printed pay-in slip"1 -

Personally I wouldn’t worry about posting it. I recently sent a very nice unlocked iPhone in the post as a trade in and that arrived okay.0 -

Chase I can see a problem with, but isn't there a Virgin Money branch anywhere near you?Does either account offer cheque scanning via mobile?0

Chase don't accept cheques, period. re Virgin Money, according to their branch finder, there is no VM branch anywhere near me. With respect to my concern over using the PO cheque deposit system, I'm not specifically worried about what a third party may or may not do with it but rather, it getting lost in the system, without trace or recompense.0

Shove it in the post like thousands of others do. Assuming it's payable to you it's no good to anyone else. If it gets lost it can be re-issued.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1

Whyohwhy didn't OP empty the account by transferring the cash to Chase or Virgin before closing it?2
