If you choose the ATM route, be aware the cash machine might have a lower limit than your bank.
My bank says I can withdraw £500 per day. However the cash machine at my supermarket only allows £250 maximum withdrawl. I haven't tried 2 transactions in quick succession at this ATM so I don't know if that is possible.

The transaction limit used to be limited to the number of notes that could reliably dispensed by the cash machine in one go.

Also, a local post office told me that you can withdraw as much cash as your bank allows you at a post office counter.  My last post office counter withdrawal for a particular project (dad’s Christmas presents to grand children and great-grandchildren) was £750, more than my Daily Cash machine limit at the time of £500.

    Halifax  is the branch
Is there a Lloyds branch nearby? Halifax customers can now use those.

Yes there is and still open, thank you :-)

ATM: the maximum I was allowed a month ago to withdraw was £250, I wanted £300.

Different ATMs have different limits but you can go to more than one in same day to withdraw max amount you are allowed by your own bank.

I knew finding out where you banked would make a difference to the specific answers previously given

Ditto Bank of Scotland, if the OP happens to reside Up There.
Halifax customers have always been able to use Bank of Scotland branches are they're the same bank.
Lloyds customers also already had access to Bank of Scotland branches as Lloyds has no Scottish branches.

The only real change is group branches in England, Wales and NI became fully reciprocal.
  • Your going to have to answer a lot of questions about withdrawing this amount in cash I imagine. Probably best to withdraw the max per day from ATMs in cash withdrawals. No questions asked.
Halifax says £800/ day cash withdrawals ATM.
3.5k isn't a large amount of money for a bank branch - they will need proper ID and a reason for the needing cash but I wouldn't expect 'to have to answer a lot of questions' for that kind of amount.

First Direct upped my daily limit on cash withdrawals to 2k per card, as I have 2 accounts that was 4k,
I withdrew £500 eight times without issue.

Agreed. When I last needed a similar sum in cash, I didn't even need ID.

Just told the lady what I wanted - she asked a few questions (is somebody asking you to withdraw cash, etc) from a checklist which I signed.
Then it was card in the reader, enter my PIN, job done. (May have confirmed on the mobile app - can't remember)

    Painless.

That's good. I needed photo ID to change a paper £10 to a plastic £10 in a branch!
