I know absolutely nothing about tech stuff so would kindly request you pitch your replies accordingly.
My desktop computer, like me, is elderly (2018) and the Microsoft pop up thingy, tells me it is not compatible with Windows 11 - which I'm led to believe I'll need, to function and stay secure on line in the long term.
I just use it for online shopping, a bit of Internet browsing, online form filling, emails and Internet banking - I don't do mobile banking.
I use Word to type the odd letter or document and have a wired printer attached.
Presumably, I'll need to get a new computer but I cannot make sense of the multitude on offer.
I don't want to buy a Ferrari if a Reliant Robin will suffice, but similarly, I'd rather not get something that will need replacing again anytime soon.
    All suggestions gratefully received.

Do you have anyone that you know that is technical? You don't need a new computer. They could rebuild yours with Linux Mint. It will actually be more secure and they'll just need to show you the basics. But other than that, it looks like Windows and will allow the computer to run for many many more years.

If they knew someone who is 'technical', that person could simply apply the ESU or upgrade to Windows 11 for them, which would take them up to October 2027.

I've put Raspberry OS on an old desktop, and I quite like it. It has a fairly 'Windowsy' feel to it. Nevertheless, there were some issues, as there's no version of Linux that has drivers for the particular wireless card. I ended up using powerline adapters. Windows, on the other hand, was driving the card quite nicely.

I'm sure that the OP just wants to stick with windows, though.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
