Hi! We booked a trip to Zanzibar back in June (flights booked via BA but carried by Qatar Air)
Our flight to Doha (to get a connecting flight to Zanzibar) got diverted back to London after 3.5hrs as the Qatari airspace got closed due to missile attacks.
Our flight to Doha (to get a connecting flight to Zanzibar) got diverted back to London after 3.5hrs as the Qatari airspace got closed due to missile attacks.
Our connecting flight and many flights after were cancelled meaning we could not get to Zanzibar.
Our flight costs were reimbursed quickly by BA as were Airbnb costs.
However, we had booked a 2 day fly in safari to Tanzania whilst we were there at a cost of £2700.
The safari company’s policy is non refundable if cancelled within 30 days.
I tried to claim from my standard travel insurance but they would not pay as they said it was an “act of war.”
Tried to claim from BA and then QA to no avail.
Tried to claim from BA and then QA to no avail.
We then finally tried to claim via section 75 of NatWest Mastercard but they have also declined as the supplier was not in breach of contract.
Can anyone advise if there are any further steps I can take to claim this money back? Appeal? Financial Ombudsman?
Help!

You have pretty much tried everything, it certainly isnt the airlines fault, nor the credit card company, if the travel insurance say its a no go you are out of options.
And yes I certainly would have thought Natwest would have declined it, the safari was still there to be used and you not being able to get there wasnt their fault either.2 -
Your only hope is to appeal the travel insurance rejection. Was the exclusion due to war made clear to you when you booked?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. While it's not your fault, it's not theirs either. Due to the short notice, inevitably they're going to have empty seats on the flight and in the safari vehicle. While I can appreciate you feel you shouldn't take the hit for this, why should they?
I think you'll be out of luck on this one, unfortunately.Know what you don't0 -
