The easiest, and sometimes most lucrative, way of closing a current account it to CASS switch it to another current account.

Although the methods described in the above link will also work. May be the online one might only work on working days / during business hours.

If that is the case then switching may only work the same mon-fri. by switching it also switches the payments I think. So if I have money coming in then it will go to new account and hence any belence or debit will be transfered. I want to stop all payments going in BTW

is there an option to do this from my browser please?
From memory, so might be wrong:
     select the account
     click on 'Other Actions'
     select 'Close'.

Switch and get a switch bonus if you can. I note your post above. It’s irrelevant when you request a switch, you can choose a date.
  • Got a smartphone? Get the app and try that.

The OP, on another thread, is trying to stop payments being credited to their account. This is obviously one way (the only way?) of doing it.

If that’s the case, OP could open another bank account at the same bank rather than switch.

Sorry, it's "More Actions", even more sorry, "Close" isn't there either.
It is with easy access savings accounts.
What is it with banks not making closing accounts easy?
    Try
    1. Log in to online banking and select ’Help & support’ from the navigation.
    2. Select ’Message us 24/7’.
    3. Enter your message and select ’Send’ to get chatting.
