Using battery off one car for another. Not sure why it's not listed as being ok?

Ok so my car is about to get scrapped but it has a good battery which isn't old at all.

Said battery which I purchased from Tayna batteries. But it's basically the Yuasa YBX5100. This is currently in a diesel car.

Now I have a replacement car. A MK5 Golf 2.0 TDI and I'm not convinced with the existing battery on it.
I thought I'd check to see if my existing one would fit because it looks about the size of the one already in there but when I go on the Yuasa site & put in the reg, first off it says more than 1 battery option but when I click either, the YBX5100 isn't listed. Instead:

YBX3027
YBX5027
YBX7027
or
YBX3096 ....... EDIT to add - I've actually just gone through some pictures & this is the one that's currently fitted to the Golf. I've checked the dimensions & it's the same except a tad 'taller' than my battery - so my battery would physically fit so it must just be about the makeup of the battery that's the question then.
YBX5096
YBX7096

Go to Halfords & get the results...

HSB027
HSB096 - this one mentions silver, as does the one I've already got.

* No it doesn't HAVE to be Yuasa, but since that's the one I've got in my current car then I'm trying to compare like-for-like.

Would mine be ok or is there a reason it wouldn't be ok?

Physical dimensions I understand. Without trying it in I don't know for 100% but it certainly looks like it'll fit as it looks the size of the existing one.

It'll work, but you might need to pack out the battery clamp.
027 and 096 are two longstanding "sizes" (dimensions, capacities and CCA) of car batteries. My late-90s Renault Espace used that size, IIRC.
The 5100 is size 100 and matches most aspects of the 096 spec; the terminal layout matches, the CCA value is in the same range, and the Ah capacity is also in the same range.
Dimensionally, however, the 096 is 190mm high and the 100 is only 175mm high. There might be enough adjustment in the battery clamp, but if not you'll have to improvise. I've used a bit of batten in the past but exactly what will work for you will depend on the style of clamp!

Thanks for the response. At least it's compatible & if the Golf battery turns out to actually be duff then I can use my own battery.

The clamp on the golf is just a side clamp at the middle base so since the only dimensional difference is the height, with my battery being smaller then it shouldn't be a problem.

The clamp on the battery of the car getting scrapped is a top clamp going over the top of the battery. Had this been the situation with the Golf then it could've been an issue.

If you bought the golf from a dealer, I'd swap the battery with the good one- provided you kept it charged.

Second hand cars sit for months so the battery goes flat, and stays flat until they get the Topdon (if they are on Youtube) to it to start it up ready for sale.

This kills the battery, and you will find that it fails in the cold weather.

If you used the old car regularly, and kept the battery charged it will be a far better long term bet.

There is only 1AH difference, and the CCA is better on the 5100. They are both the same type so it will work perfectly as long as it is secure.

Just make sure it doesn't come into contact with the bonnet

The golf doesn't come from a dealer.
Comes from someone I know. I know about the previous 7-8yrs of this golf.

They were having starting issues. Got a second hand battery & the car started perfectly fine then no problems for however long after that.

They then got a new car & so had no use for the golf so let it sit on the drive until they had some things sorted on it & was going to sell it.

Its been sat there 4-8 week, maybe more the 8 week than the 4, not having been touched.

Hence the battery was flat when I came to it after buying it off them since I need a car & at the moment this is a better option than someone asking £5k for a 20yr old regular car.

My battery on the other hand was never second hand. Like I say, I bought it brand new from Tayna & I've never had starting issues with my car.

If the battery you want to put in is taller than the one that was in there, you've got two issues.

    1. The clamp may not fit.
    2. Things may get sparkly when you shut the bonnet...

Conventional car batteries do not like being run flat, certainly not left flat, and it was second hand in the fist place.

I'd just swap them over, and scrap the one off the golf with the old car.

    Do I assume that's sweary-filter-tidied scepticism?

    I've had it happen...

The 096 (existing battery) is TALLER than the 100 (replacement battery). One thing it won't do, is short out on the bonnet. But the terminals may not be able to reach. Some cars have some flex in them, others have a very precise layout/routing of the wires so it wouldn't work. On a Mk5 Golf I think the neg terminal will foul the battery box if you fitted a less tall battery. It could be trimmed, or not fitted, to get round this.
