£3000 for boiler replacement is very high, if you go for gas safe engineer (sole trader rather than company) can get for half that (boilers have gone up a bit due to green taxes on them, BTW), would also run more efficiently as new so your running costs will be less.
  • £3k for a new boiler probably is a bit punchy, but I wouldn't have got the one I wanted/needed installed for £1.5k. My local and trusted engineer who has been doing my servicing for 10 years gave me a rough ballpark of £2.5-3k.

In any case a 450% efficient ashp and time off use electricity tariffs* mean there is an overwhelming case to make the switch, even if install was £1.5k. For me, anything less than a 10 year pay back is worth it.

*I'm well aware by using TOU tariffs I'll be sacrificing efficiency, so I'm unlikely to actually hit 450%. I'm assuming 400%

I had a quote from a local installer who is registered with Heat Geek for a Vaillant aroTHERM plus 5kW heat pump, 200L Ultimate Super Coil, 9 new radiators and 413% efficiency guarantee. Total cost £21,044 (less £7,500 is £13,544). This sounded ridiculously expensive to me. Estimated saving of just under £400 per annum, but as we only spent £416 on gas last year, that seems optimistic. Even if it did save £400 per annum, that's a 33 year payback period.
Requested an online quote from EON and, with the same heat pump, a Vaillant cylinder and 6 new radiators, the cost was £12,763 (less £7,500 is £5,263). That's over £8,000 less!
An Octopus online quote was £4,250, but that wouldn't be with the same equipment.
Thoughts welcome from anyone who has engaged with EON.

How long ago was that quote?
The HG quotes changed recently with their 'Zero Disrupt' methodology and that results in much lower quotes now.

It was two weeks ago. I didn't ask for a "Zero Disrupt" option, but surely that doesn't save £8k.

It did for me, but 2 weeks ago I would have hoped you didn't need to ask for the 'Zero Disrupt' option unless perhaps your installer hasn't been trained on it yet...
