Daughter going Austalia for 12 months working, which Insurance to look at?

Daughter is moving to Oz for work for 12 months. What type of insurance is best for her from travel to health (if any), she mentioned medicaid (I think that was the name).  She will be working as a nurse, so would backpackers insurance cover that for the length of time or one way insurance for flight and then sort it over there?

Thanks

British citizens can use medicare by enrolling but not everything is free even for Australians, Ambulance charges, out of pocket expenses can add up, medicine needs to be paid for. And unless you can find a bulk billing doctor she will need to pay to see the doctor. She would be best taking out Australian medical cover as she is not a backpacker

Does she have a return flight booked?

If she sustained a significant injury which will take months of convalescing, would that be done there or would she want to return to the UK?

No return flight is booked at this moment, so just looking for flight insurance for one way at this time.

Travel insurance typically requires your return ticket to be booked. Sounds more like getting local insurance as appropriate but obviously noting it won't cover repatriation to the UK if she needs long term care.

At this moment it is flight insurance only, assuming she enjoys it over there and stays for the full year or even longer but at this moment it's 12 months with no return flights. Do we purchase normal insurance and say it's for 2 weeks or backpackers for the full year?
    Cheers

For normal travel insurance you'd need to be booking the return flight now so that doesnt work.

    "flight insurance" isnt a thing.

May I ask why she hasn't booked a flexible return?  They may be cheaper than one ways and give the option for a return date.

If your daughter is in paid work, she is not a backpacker so please don't go down that route.  If she's a nurse surely her employer are the best people to ask.

Standard travel insurance does not cover working while abroad.

I reckon your earlier advice on seeking guidance from the employer is sound, especially on the implications for insurance etc. as a paid worker.
Australia doesn't have an embassy in the UK - the Australian High Commission in London would be the "go to" source for advice I assume.
