  • Probably is something this trivial. As long as your WiFi password is decently complex and you haven't been profligate in handing it out then there is very low risk of bad stuff happening.

Having said that, it would be an intolerable irritation to me if I didn't know what every device was on my router.

Yes, it is bugging me too. I was in blissful ignorance. Had no idea until I downloaded the Vodaphone app.

If your router can tell you what it is connecting to it might give you an idea. Of course you could use wireshark to analyse your network https://www.wireshark.org/#

Or you could just change the Wi-Fi password, update the devices that you know about, and the unknown one(s) will go away. An occasional (or regular) password change isn't a bad thing, though I don't know a lot of people who do it. Maybe have a cable connection ready in case you write the new password down incorrectly.

On being presented with the output of wireshark most people will throw up their hands in horror, or ask why "nerds make things too complicated for normal people".

It's a few weeks since I checked my home network and this prompted me to have a look. 18 online 6 off line and I know what they all are, so that's good.
