Yep it is a fair bit cheaper (though still expensive at approx extra £150/month for normal rather than Black box policy) having my daughter as policy holder and my wife and I as named drivers (including saying my wife will remain the main driver)…strange but so be it! Thanks for your help! As I’m mid term will switch to that and then see what renewal prices are like!
As she is the policyholder presumably you have declared 0 NCD when getting the quote?
  • Yep, even with 0 years as NCD.
My wife’s NCD (she was policy holder) is now paused and can be restarted again without losing any years if she takes out another policy in the next 3 years.

Be aware that most insurers will only accept NCD for a maximum of two years after she last had a policy. Admiral currently accept it for three years, but they are an exception and could change their policy at any time.

If preserving your wife's NCD is important, consider alternating the cover on your other car so that you are the policyholder one year, she is the policyholder the next etc.
  • Depending on where you are and whether you eat out regularly, or go to the cinema, the irritating Meerkat people (Compare the market) offer typically 25% off the bill when eating in some places and 2 for 1 cinema tickets. We typically save £200 to £500 a year with the Meerkat app.
Obviously it depends on your circumstances, but for us the insurance via CTM is no more expensive that any other and the savings are real.
