How might I unlock a phone I own but haven't used for at least 15+ years

Hopefully the title will explain the issue. It's definitely a stab in the dark.
Having a declutter and came across my (very) old Sony Ericsson P910i, boxed, with all the trimmings. It seems they can sell on eBay, but unlocked is best, and this appears to be locked, because when I put in a Lebara SIM, it asked me for a code.
My belief is that when I actually last used it, I was with O2 on a Pay Monthly contract, but that's not completely guaranteed - it may have been another provider. I am no longer an O2 customer.
Any suggestions as to how I might unlock it, at zero or minimal cost, would be gratefully received.

If in doubt - do something. (With fond memories of Harry Chapin)

You might get lucky with a local mobile repair stall in a shopping centre, some can still unlock older phones like the P910i, especially if they’ve been around a while. Worth asking, but don’t pay much.Alternatively, you can buy an unlock code online using the phone’s IMEI (dial *#06# to get it). Plenty of sites still offer codes for Sony Ericsson models, usually under £20. Once unlocked, boxed P910is in working order have sold for over £50 on eBay, so it could be worth doing.2

Would be worth trying an o2, gigfgaff, or tesco sim in it to check whether it's a network lock or a phone lock first.
