i raised a dispute with airline as they were unable to book special assistance.

cc company have now told me it could take 45 days to resolve,  and i may lose my money if the airline cancels the flight and dispute goes in their favour.

flight is on friday, so i asked cc company to cancel the dispute as i cannot afford to lose the money on these tickets and book other flight.

had the cc company given me detailed information about this issue i would not have raised the dispute. my understanding after discussion with the agent when filling in the dispute form, was that i would receive a refund and would be able to book flight where they could provide the assistance i required.
no other explanation was given as to the procedures of the dispute.

now i am facing a dilemma, - do i risk going to airport and then being refused boarding due to dispute raised, or just book flight elsewhere and hope it goes in my favour.#

after further reading i have now seen it can go on my credit file

any advice appreciated.
Nice to save.

    Read this where?

This would only happen if you dispute it, get the money back, the retailer disputes the refund, they take you to court, and you get a CCJ.

i am really stressed out now, as i have tried to manage booking online, selecting seats etc. but am unable to do so.

i can login to my account where the flight and ticket details are showing as before , just cannot access manage booking requests as i was able to do so before contacting the credit card company.

i have phoned airline , but agent could not access either after numerous attempts,  i was told to raise  an email request to be contacted, which i have done and reply i have received that it could take up to seven days to  receive a response.

i am at my wits end now as to what i should do,

is their a possibility i will not be allowed to board if i turn up at the airport ?,  because i am not sure if the airline has voided the ticket or if it is still valid.

i would be grateful if anyone has gone through a similar experience or has any knowledge about such matters to advise me.

    thank you

You really need to confirm this with the airline before arriving at the airport, they should be able to see notes about what is happening if nothing else.

Assuming you'd already selected seats, you could proceed with a test booking and see if it allows you to select those same seats - there and back - that would give you an idea if the seats have been cancelled.

What special assistance do you need? Obviously you dont have to answer if you dont want to. Just most special assistance is provided by the airport not the airline so if the airport can't provide it for one airline switching airline won't help.

I'm surprised you thought that the bank will simply refund you potentially large sums of money based purely on you telling them something over the phone. It's not really surprising that given this money will be clawed from the merchant that they give the merchant an opportunity to respond to your allegations.

I'm not clear on what your actual allegations are against the airline? Did they promised the special assistance and then contact you later to say it's not available? Without the details it's hard to judge if you have any case at all.

Which airline is it? Ryanair at least didnt bother defending chargebacks during covid but instead simply won't let customers book another flight without first repaying their debt.

Flight bookings/reservations and flight tickets are two separate things. A reservation can exist without a ticket.

What has happened to other people when they've raised a dispute is pretty irrelevant here; it's what's happened in your case that is important.

If both you and the call centre agent are having trouble viewing all the details, then I'd be assuming the worst (that the ticket may have been cancelled due to the dispute you raised) and do everything possible to contact the airline to get it sorted.

Which airline is it? Some will show ticket numbers on their bookings (eg, with BA, its a number starting 125).

well, after much to-oing and fro-ing , i have received an email from airline stating my ticket has been cancelled due to the chargeback.
i am not sure if they will re-instate the ticket if i inform them that i have requested to cancel the chargeback.

I think that they're unlikely to 'reinstate', so it would be best to work on the basis that you'll be buying a new ticket, hopefully with a different airline.

Have you received a provisional refund from your card provider yet, this would normally be paid early in the process even though it can be reversed if the merchant challenges it?  Has the airline stated that they won't challenge the chargeback?

Too late for you now but for the potential benefit of other readers, this really emphasises the importance of understanding that chargeback is intended as a mechanism for reversing a payment only after all attempts to resolve a merchant dispute have failed....

Once a chargeback has been started it can not be cancelled by you or your bank.

Quite surprised that a chargeback was started in the 1st place. On the basis i raised a dispute with airline as they were unable to book special assistance."

As that has nothing to do with flight booking you paid for. Chargeback would only be if you did not get the "Special assistance" paid for service.

Special assistance is free, it's predominately provided by the airport not the airline though the airline will request it for you. The exception is if you need the assistance on the plane itself though most are getting to/from the plane due to mobility issues etc.

    Thanks.
Which further begs the question, what was the chargeback for (can see no reason here, pre flight) & what did OP tell them?
