Some charities collect furniture to sell in their shops - I've had several things collected by British Heart Foundation
They won't take everything, but details are on their website - you can book online and the local shop will contact you to confirm

BHF can be a nightmare as well.  MIL went into a care home and we went into the local store and explained what we had and even
showed them photo's etc.  They refused to take the wooden wardrobes, they refused to take the bed base because it did not match the
mattress but were willing to take the expensive mattress on it's own.  I said but it will not match the base of your buyers so thanks
    but no thanks.

They left with nothing, another charity shop got more than thought though because the silver spoon collection went into the wrong
boxes so they must have received them.  Hope they spotted them.

So annoying. It recently took me over a month to give away some expensive makeup on olio due to no-shows.

I too have experienced the same thing.

I've posted good quality items on Freegle and Freecycle and this no-show nonsense has definitely increased over the last year, i've concluded that because it's possible to buy chinese carp for next to nothing that's what people are doing - clearly people aren't as interested in saving the planet as they claim to be.

Various silly excuses are given by the person taking the item, supposedly, and now i rarely use either site, i've started taking things to the refuse site.

Thankfully you can report people who mess you about on Olio, it's much better than Facebook in that respect.  Frustrating that people did mess you about at all though.

Having vowed never to try and give anything away again on facebook - i relented and offered up a small item of furniture that's far too good to throw away, it's also on freegle and similar places. Listing showed lots of photos , full measurements (inches and cms) , a part post code - plus the usual no delivery available. The item was free.

I'm on day 4 having wasted hours of my time on people who have failed to turn up, or turn up in a small car to collect a piece of furniture that obviously needs a large car or small van. My Oh was actually slightly ruder yesterday to someone than I would have liked, having waited in on 3 failed definite collections someone turned up in an Aygo - my Oh came to the door whilst I was telling the person it wouldn't fit - and they insisted that my OH helped her try - and he just said no as the furniture was considerably  bigger than her available loading area  and closed the door in her face.

I'm also some sort of disaster magnet as so far when I message people when it is way past their definite collect by time, they have all had disasters which means they couldn't even struggle to the phone to apologise for not coming.

I'm sitting here now waiting for someone who was definitely coming by 10 , I have emailed to see if they have changed their mind but have no reply.

Am I just unlucky with trying to get rid of things or does this happen to others as well?
If you were clear about the size, I don't think your OH's response was rude.

It did, back when I could bothered to try and give away such things... not Facebook in my case, but Freecycle.

    Selling stuff was easier!

If I had the chance to get some free expensive makeup up I’d turn up early 😹

I decided to trim down my large nail varnish collection.  Most of the charity shops wouldn’t take it.   One young man said it had to be sealed and when I explained that nail varnish is never sealed, well,I gave up.  I advertised it on Freecycle and got quite a few responses.  I had enough for 2 lots and both people turned up when they said they would.

I think it’s just pot luck

Don’t let the negatives put you off.  I gave away a dishwasher a year or two ago.  It was the third attempt but the young couple who took it away were delightful and grateful.  Truly made my day.

Had a buyer stating he wanted to collect an item I was selling.
Negotiated a price, which we both agreed on.
He only lives around a 15 min drive from me (or 3 stops on the tube).
Informed him I was free any weekday after 4pm, or any time on the weekend.
Despite this, he keeps asking if I'm free the following weekday morning.
So I respond and state I'm free any time after 4pm.
So at 11am I receive a message stating 'can I come now'?

I don't understand how I can be any clearer?!
Decided to stop responding, block, and move on.

Oh and I also do not share my address for collection.
I share my postcode, then ask the person to contact me when they are on my road so I can guide them to my door - or I go out to the vehicle.
I got sick of people saying they would be with me by 6pm, and then turn up at my door at 10pm instead!
