Well I am currently with Octopus 🐙, gas tracker and flux, previous with Ovo(ex SSE) dreadful company, and also with BG, but before I knew there was a huge difference.

I'm not getting any returns for octopus at the comparison websites, i am only getting eon next, fuse, british gas, edf and so energy

British Gas are actually pretty competitive with fixes at the moment. Their list of tariffs on offer changes almost daily, and you can move to another BG fix (but not the SVT) without incurring the exit fees that you would pay if you left them mid-term for another supplier.

They do not have a good reputation if you need any sort of customer service, but I have found that if you are able to sign up online using the automated process, everything works very well. If you have an E7 meter you are able to choose the single rate version of a tariff (charged on all units added together) just by selecting that option on a menu. With many (most?) suppliers that is a much more arduous process.

If you set up an account with them, all available options for different tariffs will be made available on your account and, as I said, they change very frequently to reflect the ups and downs of the market.

The guy living in this house before me died and was with evo energy not british gas,
In that case, evo (OVO?) should still be the supplier unless something happened in the interim. You can find out who the supplier is here: Who is my electricity supplier? | Northern Powergrid. You have to open an account with the current supplier before being able to change to a different one of your choice.

As evo was the supplier with the last person who lived here, why has british gas said i have to ring them and open an account
Who shows as the supplier when using that link?

Could it be that electricity and gas are delivered by different suppliers? That's not at all unusual.

You obviously missed the OP's post at 1241, they are electricity only!

British Gas are horrendous for customer service; switch away PDQ.  Octopus are good for customer service (especially if you phone) but email may be less good if they use AI.  The app is brilliant.  Prices good but possibly not the cheapest.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated
I have got Fuze as a recommended supplier from the price comparison websites, also eon and edf are similarly priced
Do you have any feelings on any of these three, have you heard anything or read anything

Of the three, if they're genuinely similar prices is personally choose EON over either of the others.
Fuse are new and tiny. EDF are big but almost as BG :D
