New British gas customer ?
Hi Thanks for reading. I just moved into a new house and got a
letter from british gas declaring themselves as my energy provider,
giving me an account number, and saying i should call them to set up an
account
Can they do this, can they force their services onto me
I
am however shopping around for an energy supplier and will appreciate
any advice in that direction. I live in west yorkshire and heard that
british gas are expensive
Is that true, are british gas expensive, and do you know of any suppliers with better prices0

You will have to pay BG for when you move in to when you transfer your account to someone else. All it means is the last person living in the property was with BG and when they called to say they were moving out they gave your name as the person moving in after them.
All suppliers vary by area and depending on if they are the original suppliers for that area or not can mean they arent free to price due to rules created dealing with the fact it was historically a monopoly1 -
Yes, you need to set up an account with the incumbent supplier before switching.
Unless you choose otherwise you will be paying the standard variable tariff, it maybe called the deemed tariff.
That SV tariff is fixed for the region across all suppliers.
You need to do some research before switching to make sure it fits your usage and lifestyle, such as whether you have solar panels and an electric vehicle.0 -

In that case, evo (OVO?) should still be the supplier unless something happened in the interim. You can find out who the supplier is here: Who is my electricity supplier? | Northern Powergrid. You have to open an account with the current supplier before being able to change to a different one of your choice.jack_121 said:The guy living in this house before me died and was with evo energy not british gas,I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.0 -
