Error on speeding ticket

Hello, I have received a Notice of Intended Prosecution for doing 43mph in a 30mph zone. My mistake, I simply thought I was in a 40 zone. I believe I was caught by a manual police speed camera rather than a yellow box camera but interestingly they wrote the incorrect road name on the Notice.  Does this make any difference? Thank you.

Well it does open the box to questioning the evidence as you could simply reply saying that you were not on that road at that time. Do you know the speed limit on the road mentioned?

The regulars on this board are excellent for giving advice on parking issues but for speeding issues a different site is recommended

Whilst a deficiency in the NIP may help defend the speeding allegation, the issue for you at present is responding to the "Request for Driver's details".

    How wrong is the location?

This is a case where a speed awareness course would be a really useful reminder of what you learned for your test... But, at 43mph, you're just outside the threshold - so you're looking at 3pts and £100 fixed penalty.

Without regular signage repeating the limit, it cannot have been a 40 limit. Or, to turn it round, it could only have been a 40 if there was a regular sign telling you that.

You can ALWAYS tell within 100m or so what the speed limit is, just through your normal basic observation of what's going on around your car.

    Repeaters? That's the limit.

No repeaters, but there are streetlights? 30, unless you're in Wales, then it's 20.

No repeaters or streetlights? Count the carriageways. One? 60. Two? 70. Not lanes, carriageways.

What do you mean by "incorrect"? Is it an actual road (but the wrong one)? Or something which is obviously an error like a spelling mistake?

    Good morning.
    Thanks all for your replies.
They have on the notice 'A25 GODSTONE ROAD, BLETCHINGLEY' and '7567 - Site Location Code'.
The Godstone Road turns into High Street. I was photographed at the other end of the High Street, about 700m from the end of Godstone Road.

Godstone Road is probably the location of the camera, 700m is not unreasonable for a ping.
I doubt if there is sufficient error in the location, but by all means try the suggestions.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

The recent case over on FTLA had a location on a different A road and as the guy was driving a taxi he also had proof he was nowhere near the claimed route.
