Thanks , the hiss and glare along with the aroma of a paraffin lamp while in a railway tunnel in the wee small hours is very evocative to me, would bring a tear to a glass eye thinking about it.

The only time there is any sort of smell is when it fires up then when it burns there is no smell at all. I do know carbon monoxide can be odurless but as i said before the built in CO alarm has never went off nore has the other CO alarm we have in the room

As stated before, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide are different gases. A carbon monoxide atarm won't register carbon dioxide, and vice-versa.
If you want to measure carbon dioxide (and it's OK if you don't want to), you'd need something like this:
    N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.
    2.72kWp PV facing SSW installed Jan 2012. 11 x 247w panels, 3.6kw inverter. 34 MWh generated, long-term average 2.6 Os.
Not exactly back from my break, but dipping in and out of the forum.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is lighter than air and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is denser , this will effect where monitors/ alarms are placed.
Whatever device you purchase follow the instuctions with it.
