Mine's in two parts - the meter itself which is pretty much permanently submerged and an electronic gizmo attached to the underside of the lid which I assume is what transmits the data. It works fine.

For me, Severn Trent has reintroduced usage graphs onto its new portal. It is no longer referred to as My Smart Tracker. While usage volumes are clear, meter reading does not appear to be a possibility.

I know this thread is from last year but I was searching online forums about this and wanted to give everyone a warning. I had a water meter installed about 5 years ago, this summer it was leaking. STW fixed the leak but at the same time restricted the water pressure into my house (apparently they do this as standard). I didn't know about this but the leak wasn't fixed so I called STW again and the engineer who came out the second time informed me and asked if I wanted the pressure to be set back to what it was - I agreed. I'm all for saving water but water companies aren't exactly pulling their weight when it comes to usage so I'm going to carry on having good pressure in my house!

I received a very snotty email from STW saying my DD wasn't high enough and I was behind on my monthly payments. When I checked my account, the last time an actual meter reading was taken was January 2026. I queried this with STW and they said that they should take a reading every 6 months but if they don't have the resources to take an actual reading they put in an estimate. So what exactly is smart about my water meter?

I wanted to tell people who are in the STW area - don't take any nonsense from water companies. They genuinely could not care less. I have refused to pay the outstanding amount on my water account because, since January 2026, I live alone and I know my water usage has gone down. They're coming out to do a meter reading, will do a revised bill and then I'll set up a new DD if I need to.

Query everything about your water bill, don't just pay the amount they're insisting on. Happy to answer any questions or help.
