ICI Shares from my childhood

Hi!
I know this probably sounds really weird, but when I was 3 years old, I was brought some shares in Imperial Chemical Industries PLC. I have the certificate and everything. I just found them today. I have done some digging and understand that the company merged with another one back in 2008. I was just curious and very confused about if there is any use in the certificate anymore? Are there still shares? I'm very new to any of this and just feel very confused, excuse my naiveté.
Thank you!

A google turned up this quite old thread similar to your situation - i.e. finding out whether the share have any value.
Might be worth a quick read. Meanwhile I see that ICI is currently holding steady at 667p a share. Do you have enough for this to be worth chasing?

Is it your name on the share certificate?
Do you now have shares in AstraZeneca?
Have you looked at Wikipedia?

How old are they? In c.1993 ICI was split up and part ultimately became AstraZeneca and part was sold - the Dulux paint bit - in 2008 to Akzo Nobel. If you had them in 1993, you/your trustee should have received some shares in Zeneca which became AstraZeneca and the Akzo acquisition was all cash in 2008, 670p per share.IIRC ICI also paid dividends so where were they going?
Ultimately, if you have no one to tell you what happened, you can try contacting the share registrar. The problem is that this is all so long ago that if the registrar hasn't had your/your trustee's contact details any shares and outstanding cash may have been forfeited.
