Anyone else have issues with NS&I BROWSER login?

I suppose it wont be an issue after this month when the Halifax £5 stops but I'll ask anyway.

Often when I go to log in to do the £500 transaction I put in my details - customer number, password, name, hit login, it goes to authenticate and then i takes me back to the login page so that i have to enter all the info I've literally just entered again.

It then takes me to the next page where I have to get a code sent to my phone.

And THEN I can FINALLY get in to the account.

It's the going back to the login page that's annoying. Doesn't happen with any other bank. What's the need in this?

It has done it today, but it doesn't always.

It asked for cookie permissions today as well, which means it had forgotten my browser, which is why there was the need for a code by SMS.

I get the text message thing but the taking you back to the login page is just stupid.
I'd say it also happens more often to me than it doesn't.

I log in twice a month in case that makes any difference.

It's a bit hit and miss.  I normally use Chrome, but when that doesn't work I use Microsoft's browser and it seems to be okay with that.
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

Yes,happens a lot, last week it must have logged me out 4 times in the 1 session.Fortunately I'm pulling my money out in a few weeks so won't have to use the god awful site again for a while.... except for buying some premium bonds, unless I can do that on the app, I'm not sure if I can

You don't say how you were connected to the internet but NS&I is notorious for playing up when you collect either on your mobile phone browser or on a laptop tethered to your phone or whatever ie using the mobile network and a browser.

Using the app seems to be okay, although you can't do much on it

Yes, exactly the same thing happens to me every now and again. I only log in sporadically though and seem to have to re-authorise my device (PC) each time despite nothing having changed since the last log-in. I don't tend to clear cookies/caches that often so perhaps authorised devices have a time limit ?

A 'flaky' logging in experience doesn't exactly inspire confidence, it has to be said. I certainly wouldn't accept that for a bank I had to use more often but, sadly, you're obviously stuck with NS&I when it comes to Premium Bonds !

When I used NS&I, I noticed that any browser that was 'privacy centric', or browsers where I had installed extensions that meddled with cookies often caused the NS&I login to be erratic and behave as described here.

Clearly the NS&I site could be coded better, but at the end of the day if you mess with cookies you disrupt the mechanism of a site recognising your browser that would result in fewer checks/problems when logging in.

Not saying it's always the case, but I suspect most problems here are due to cookie meddling

I think it falls back to the log in screen because if you look behind the pop ups such as "Please Wait" etc it is the log in screen so when the procedure fails for some reason it just falls back to that.  It usually works second attempt but if that fails I clear cookies and go again which may or may not result in a 2FA request.

I've always logged in to NS&I using DuckDuckGo without any problems.
